How to Overcome the Start-and-Stop Cycle

We've all experienced it - that initial burst of excitement and motivation to start something new, only to find ourselves slowly or suddenly losing steam. And when we stumble, we can't help but berate ourselves for not staying the course. Sound familiar? Trust me, you're not alone!

Let's talk about falling off the wagon and the process of bouncing back. Because guess what? It happens to all of us, including me! Yes, even the person behind this blog has her moments of "super duper energy" to suddenly finding herself weeks away from sending out a new blog or any type of post for that matter.


So, how do we break free from this cycle and regain our momentum? Here's the process that has helped me, and maybe it'll resonate with you too:

  1. Untangle Your Worth from the Outcome: Your worth isn't tied to completing every single thing you start. We often make it personal, beating ourselves up for not finishing certain tasks. But your value as a person or a business owner isn't contingent on checking off a to-do list.

  2. Free Yourself from Others' Opinions: Let go of the fear of what others might think if you pause or quit something. We tend to overestimate how much people care or notice. Truth is, they're busy with their own lives!

  3. Reassess Your Why: Check-in with yourself. Is this something you genuinely want to pursue? It's okay to change your mind and let go of things that don't align with your current goals.

  4. Life Happens, and That's Okay: Understand that life can throw curveballs, making it impossible to juggle everything seamlessly. Be kind to yourself when new priorities demand your attention.

  5. Simplify and Ease In: If you're ready to recommit, start small. Simplify your approach and take gradual steps. Remember, momentum builds with consistent, manageable actions.

  6. Embrace Recommitment as a Process: It's okay to fall off and get back on the wagon again. Recommitment is about continually aligning yourself with your intentions. Ease the pressure off yourself.
